Chamerion angustifolium, Rosbay willowherb
Rosebay
Willowherb is perennial which grows largely on waste ground, cleared woodlands,
on river banks and on wide range of soil types.
This field
of Rosebay Willowherb is located in Highfield Country Park growing on
a patch of
cleared woodland. Although the plats
were already dead they reminded me of wheat fields in summer. The soil
underneath was damp and sunlight conditions very good,
the plants were
receiving lots of sunlight.
Rosebay
Willowherb grows up to 1.5m in height. Its flowers are 2-3cm across, with
pinkish-purple petals and flowers from July to September.
The leaves
are lanceolate, arranged spirally up the stems. The fruits are pods containing
cottony seeds.
