Cotoneaster horizontalis, Wall cotoneaster
Wall
cotoneaster is a stiff shrub with spreading habit, growing up to 1m in height.
Its
branches divide and spread in a flat plain.
This
cotoneaster is located in the more formal part of Longford Park. It is very
good example of how not to use wall cotoneaster. From the other side it looks
good, the bare branches are hidden behind the brick wall. But from this side it
looks very poor.
The plant though grows very well and looks like it has been
trimmed but now it’s a bit neglected.
The wall
cotoneaster is deciduous shrub but the leaves appear early in spring. Its
leaves are 5-10mm long, glossy above and hairless below. It flowers in May
until July with pink solitary flowers and
produce bright red spherical berries
afterwards.
