Euonymus fortuneii 'Silver Queen' (v), Spindle 'Silver Queen'

Euonymus is an evergreen shrub or a climber if it’s provided with support. The plant can also be used as a dense ground cover. This particular species is growing in a private garden on the bank of River Danube 40km north from Budapest, Hungary. The first and most striking thing that a person sees there is the thick black nylon along the fence of the property and this bright yellow-green shrub popping out from it. The soil in the area is sandy and well drained. The nylon role is possibly to restrict the unwanted weeds or other vegetation in this particular strip and/ or maybe even to slightly increase the ground temperature and prevent from frosts which are not unusual for the region in the winter and early spring. This Euonumus looks to thrive very well in these conditions including the constant cold air flow from the river. It doesn’t seem to affect it at all. The plant has been provided with a denser mesh frame which will allow it to grow and vine around the fence. Euonimus can grow up to 20m in height and when fully overgrow the fence it will serve as buffer for the cold air flow from the river.
